Leaving..

My last day.. Goodbye Thunder Bay, have fun without me

sunny 12 °C

Went to sleep this morning at 4:30

11:00 - the phone rings and I think who is calling me at... 11!! its 11 already?!? wow..
I scramble to get the phone, stumble out of my single bed, over my dirty laundry, the computer chair and make it to phone just before the 3rd ring. On the other end is a stranger, someone I have never met, to take me back to Dryden. We agree on 3 to leave and I hang up the phone.

11:15 - I stumble out of my room, wearing clothes from the day before, and look over the sea of unorganized clutter, and in the middle sits my roomate. "I'm dying" I mutter. "Clearly" is her only response.

12:00 - By this time I have packed only one box. I look into Brie's room, and offer an excuse to procrastinate, "coffee?".. and to the university we go.
The sun is shining and my hangover is slightly improved. We stop at Tim Hortons (a Canadian tradition I'm sure I will miss) I order a drink and a cinnamon bun. We go to the international office for a final time, stop at a vending machine and I grab a bag of chips, and thats when I remember the thing I will miss the most, to the cafeteria we go and I purchase a final peice of pizza and an ice cream bar. On the way back to residence, just as I finish eating we spot Lindsay and I mention that I could go to Dairy Queen for a Blizzard.. will they have hangover food like this in China?? somehow I doubt it.

1:30 - the time passes so quickly, good thing I have packed a box.. sitting on the couch crochetting and the phone rings.. It's GEN!.. I heart Gen.. she comes over briefly and we say our good byes. I walk her back to her house and check out my room. I have no keys anymore. And I can't help the lyrics repeating in my mind
"I am a visitor here.. I have no permanent address"

2:30 - my room is finally sufficiently clean and I let everyone know how much they have done for me.. and the peice of them I will bring with me wherever I go (the stories, the lessons, the things I won't forget). My roomates give me a final group hug, I get in the van with all of my stuff and watch as my roomies wave goodbye.

Thanks for a wonderful 4 months. I will see you when I return, Amber's comeback tour 2008!! (ensure there is plently of tequilia, a bus, and have your pirate costume ready)
YAR!!
love you guys!!

Still at Lakehead

Finishing up my second year.. getting a little anxious

snow -15 °C

DSC00083.jpg

Here I am.. where I have been for the last 3 years.

Don't know where I will be next year.. I just know it won't be here..

Next week I do my final exams for my second year in a Commerce degree, I applied for an exchange program with my university (Lakehead) to go to Sweden, and although I have been accepted into the program by Lakehead I am waiting for my acceptance to the Lulea University of Technology. Even if I am not accepted, I think that taking a year away from my studies will be a good experience. maybe I will go to South America and learn spanish or buy a plane ticket that takes me around the world!!..

but for every journey there must be a beginning.. and a little bit of funding..

therefore treeplanting will be my first stop. This is my fourth year.. and British Columbia is on the agenda.. can't wait!! hard labour, life in a tent, bugs in my face, on my food, in my bed and up my nose. Treeplanting is GLORIOUS!!

After that, around July?? I believe, I might be on my way to China.. then maybe the 5 day trip on the trans siberian railway to Moscow?? it is too soon to tell..

I'll keep you posted
